Little Rock, AR -- In a
great weekend for West Side Alliance S.C. the club saw all three teams
who traveled to the Capital City Cup in Little Rock, Arkansas reach the
finals of the tournament hosted by Little Rock F.C. October 6th
and 7th at the regionally renowned Burns Park.
The WSA 94 boys, WSA 94
girls, and WSA 93 girls each returned with hardware and made a strong
claim for WSA as a regional contending club as the teams knocked off
opponents who were state, regionally, and nationally ranked en route to
their championship runs.
The WSA 94 boys were
champions, defeating Ingram FC 2-1 in the finals in dramatic fashion on
a game winner from Chris Orduna 6 minutes from time. The WSA 93 girls
reached the finals playing “up” an age division on three convincing wins
over 92 teams before losing to Little Rock FC 92 in the finals, while
WSA 94 girls also fell victim to the home club, LRFC, losing to Little
Rock FC 94 in their championship match.
Among the most notable results was WSA 94 girl’s victory over the
nationally ranked Mighty Blue Birds of Arkansas. WSA won the match 2-1
after falling behind 1-0 early. The WSA 94 boys win over Ingram was
another victory for the boys over a state ranked opponent, while the 93
girls defeat of Shreveport Louisiana’s 92’s was by an impressive score
line of 4-0 and eliminated the top seeded team from the event
(Shreveport was unbeaten until running into WSA 93).
Congratulations to all three teams for their tournament results and most
importantly for representing their club and community with such class
and dignity. All three teams shared a hotel “West Side Style”, had a
great time, and played some fantastic football against some quality
competition at a fantastic facility. Look for individual articles on
each team’s tournament later this week.
