August 2007 Teams to Memphis, Plano, Kansas City, Broken Arrow Labor Day Weekend WSA is sending at least a dozen teams around the region to top Labor Day tournaments this coming weekend.  The WSA 92 boys and WSA 90 boys will head to Memphis to participate in a college showcase event and at the same time support the local Oral Roberts University men's team who is also traveling to Memphis.   The WSA 94 girls head to Plano and the WSA 92 girls head to Kansas City to compete in those prestigious events.  Several teams will journey down the highway to Broken Arrow to compete in the BASC tournament including, 97 boys blue, 96 girls red, 95 girls, 94 boys, 93 boys, 93 boys, 92 boys blue, 91 boys and 90 girls.   Good luck and safe journeys to each of these teams in their preseason matches this weekend! "Coach Les Foster and Jason Foster spend some time with the u6 program on Saturday.  Helping out with the clinic were the WSA 95 boys team (not pictured)." Jason and Les Foster's WSA 95 boys team gave something back to the soccer community this past weekend as they hosted a clinic session for the u6 program in the club.  Due to weather the clinic had to be postponed on Friday night, but in spite of some lingering rain about 20 u6 and u8 players showed up, while Coach Fosters took the young kids through the clinic training session.  The WSA 95 boys team members were on hand to give the young players a hand.   It was a great experience for both the u6 players and our u13 boys team.  The clinic was a success and there are already plans for a possible encore for later in the season. Thanks WSA 95 boys for your help!  And good luck u6's in your soccer program this Fall! [08/28/07] West Side Alliance S.C. Donates $1,000 to American Cancer Society   The West Side Alliance S.C. recently submitted a donation to the American Cancer Society to the tune of $1,000.  The American Cancer Society has been WSA's CAP's focus the past two years.  CAP's or "Community Action Program" was established in 2006 with the vision of connecting more of the WSA service mission into the community.   American Cancer Society spokesperson David Funk was truly excited to learn of WSA's contribution.  "Please tell everyone at WSA "Thank You" from the American Cancer Society, from the Relay For Life of Broken Arrow, from every cancer survivor and from me," Funk relayed.    In the late 90's Funk actually worked for the WSA program as the club's referee coordinator.  He now spends much of his time promoting the American Cancer Society's program and missions.  When WSA established the CAP's program in late 2005 it was by pure coincidence that the club would stumble upon Mr. Funk in when they contacted ACS concerning a partnership.  In 2006 WSA took up a collection at the annual end of year awards presentation.  This past year the club's coaching staff hosted a clinic in which coaches did not take pay, and parents were encouraged to make a donation towards ACS.  The total donation of parents and coaches reached the goal of $1,000.    This effort was held coincidentally at the same time the club learned that long time WSA player, icon, coach, referee, and hero, Craig Cooper, had recovered successfully from a cancerous brain surgery.  It was a great time of hope and giving. Find the "Sponsor a Participant" button on the left side and search for "David Funk".   [08/27/07] WSA Roundrobin a Success!  60 teams, 80 friendlies, One Day The 13th Annual WSA Roundrobin of preseason friendlies was a tremendous success this past week, August 4th.  The Rivercity Park sports complex, home of WSA soccer, played host to 80 friendlies, hosting 60 teams, all in one days time.  The hot temperatures, which soared near 100 degrees, did not dampen the mood or atmosphere.  Teams played in 3 "mini-matches" in an effort to get tuned up and prepared for upcoming tournament and league games.   WSA was proud to host several of the states top clubs including Sheffield, Thunder, TSC, Highlanders, NOKC, Extreme, United (Bartlesville), Hurricane, Blitz, and of course West Side Alliance S.C.  In addition Little Rock FC from Arkansas was represented in the event.   Matches or "friendlies" began at 7:45 a.m. in the morning, and the final match, which featured two of WSA's own regionally ranked teams, WSA 92 boys and WSA 91 boys, concluded with an 8:30 p.m. kick-off under the lights.  So soccer was played from sun-up to sun-down, literally.    West Side Alliance S.C. would like to thank all participating teams in the 2007 WSA Roundrobin for their great sportsmanship and spirit of goodwill.  You made the 2007 WSA Roundrobin a success!   For division champions please click here.   Good luck to all teams on the coming season! Spectators take in friendlies at the 2007 WSA Roundrobin event hosted at the Rivercity Parks in Sand Springs on August 4th.  Staying cool under the canopies and shade was a popular choice by many. [07/08/07] WSA Soccer Club to Host 60 Teams in Annual Roundrobin   The West Side Alliance S.C. will play host to 60 teams, including many of it's own this Saturday, August 4th, for the 13th Annual WSA Roundrobin friendly tournament.  Nearly 80 matches will occupy every field at the Rivercity Parks Sports complex from sun-up to sundown.  The event features primarily local teams.  Traveling clubs include Bartlesville, North Oklahoma City, and Little Rock Futbol Club. The purpose of the WSA Roundrobin is to simulate a tournament-like atmosphere, but take away the pressure of results so teams and players can truly focus on preparation and development.  Of course the primary objective any time we go footballing is fun.   Soccer fans can look forward to a great afternoon of soccer and goodwill by all participating teams and clubs.  Roundrobin division champions will be recognized on this website next week.  Good luck to all teams!
