Frequently Asked Questions

BACKGROUND

The WSA Soccer Club is proud to be one of the most affordable soccer clubs in the state of Oklahoma.  WSA adheres strictly to the founding mission of providing every kid an opportunity for a competitive soccer experience.  Our staff is primarily volunteer-based.  Our coaching staff has consistently worked for modest pay, and we are ongoing in our search for staff that work first because of their heart for kids and passion for the game, and secondarily for compensation.  The club’s Directors of Coaching work for a small fraction of normal "director" pay to help offset a normal large expense to a typical club’s operating budget (in fact the club did not incur an expense for "director pay" until after 2007 and it still remains a small line item in the club's 2015-16 budget).  Our club offers one of the most generous, if not the most generous, scholarship and financial hardship program in competitive soccer in the Midwest United States.  The club’s PERSPECTIVE is sincere: "Heart for Kids".

HISTORY

Prior to 2010 our club was budgeted to achieve a “NET LOSS” on every team formed.  This insured that WSA would never be in the “business” of generating revenue off of player fees, or extra teams formed.  During an intensive financial review during 2009, chief club officers determined that due to the growing number of teams and forecasted club growth, that the club could not continue to maintain fees that generated a "net loss" per team.  The magnifying effect, due to club growth, was depleting the fundraiser resources. Thus, in 2010 club fees were increased.

COMMITMENT

Our commitment to WSA’s ongoing mission remains pure – to serve kids, to foster goodwill, and to promote character growth through the sport of soccer.  Our volunteer driven fundraisers throughout the year subsidize the pay of coaches and the club operating expenses that are not covered by the monthly and annual membership dues.  Our scholarship budget is covered primarily (over 90%) by fundraisers, and by coaches voluntarily taking on less pay each month.  Only a small contribution of fees at registration is dedicated toward the financial assistance budget.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

WSA’s financial assistance program is "need based".  Player’s requesting financial assistance are asked to submit information per their request. Fees that have applicable financial assistance awards are "Uniforms", "Monthly Installments", and "Annual Registration Fees".  WSA does not offer club-based assistance for "team fees".   WSA asks families to consider assistance requests prioritized  "in this order": UNIFORMS (financial assistance uniforms require $50 deposit at time of purchase), MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS (families are asked to honestly tell the club what amount they can afford to pay per month), ANNUAL REGISTRATION (in rare cases WSA will consider requests for annual registration assistance, but request that this assistance is discussed with the team coach).  To apply for financial assistance request a financial assistance form during registration.

BUDGET, HONESTY

Our annual budget is set to the penny so that your family is charged only for services that are rendered.  WSA is “above board’ and HONEST with all financial expectations.  There are no hidden fees. Imbedded in WSA’s monthly fees is EVERY EXPENSE you can expect to incur other than your team’s tournament/travel expenses and referee fees.  We feel like our mission to serve requires of our club officers the ongoing effort to maintain fees that are as affordable as possible for our membership.  We have the hardest working and most committed volunteer base in youth sports.  Our parents’ efforts consistently provide the resources, revenue, and innovation to operate a first class program, geared towards serving first class kids.  We have adopted an attitude of prudence to safeguard the club’s finances, your money. We trust our members to pay timely and faithfully to insure that club operations continue to serve children.

West Side Alliance S.C. embraces a servant-like attitude, and commits to being good stewards of all our resources, for the sake of kids.
