 2011 WSA ALUMNI NEWS REPORT

DECEMBER 2011:

BEHRENS, PERALTA, LOVELEE Lead NSU to national ranking! The trio from WSA 92 boys joined NSU this season as "transfers" and took a team that previously finished bottom of the conference to a NCAA national ranking by week #3! 

SWINGLE LEADS NORTHERN TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT! Natalie Swingle (WSA 93 girls) joined a Northern team that had failed to win a game the previous year, and not only won Regionals, but made the final 8 of the National JUCO tourney.  Swingle was responsible for 2 critical goals during the run from her centerback position.

DUININCK LEADS LIBERTY TO NCAA TOURNAMENT! Sam Duininck (WSA 92 boys) led the Liberty Flames to the first round of the NCAA tournament as the starting centerback.  Earlier in the season Duininck made national news by helping Liberty upend 11th ranked West Virginia with an assist!

MOORE LEADING GOALSCORER FOR OK WESLEYAN! Corwin Moore (WSA 92) was the leading goalscorer for Oklahoma Wesleyan this year helping the team turn in a few notable wins.

MCCORVEY LEADS FRIENDS UNIVERSITY AS FRESH! Bella McCorvey (WSA 93 girls) found the back of the net late in the season for Friends who had a losing record. But the coach says Bella’s offensive punch may be the difference in turning things around next season. 

DILLON ALEXANDER OFF THE BENCH FOR TU GOLDEN HURRICANE! Dillon Alexander (WSA 93 boys) came off the bench regularly as a freshman at Tulsa University to help add a "spark". The coach called his minutes "energy minutes" each half.  TU began the season nationally ranked, but for the first time in 5 years dropped from the national polls

HARMON & MOMO LEAD ROGERS STATE IN GOALS & MINUTES! Adam Harmon (WSA 93 boys) was called by his college coach "the workhorse".  Coach Larkin said "If we could get more west siders like that we’d be in business".  Harmon led the team in minutes played for most of the season as a freshman from his defensive center mid role.  Mohammed (WSA 93 boys) led RSU in goals.  "It’s like he gets shot out of a cannon" claimed his coach.   


PEARSON, BLACK, FIELDEN LEAD NEOSHO TO PLAY-OFFS! Steph Pearson (WSA 93 girls), Courtney Fielden (WSA 93 girls) and Sarah Black (WSA 92 girls) helped NEOSHO reach the Regional Play-Offs before being ousted in the first round.

NORTHERN HIRES PERALTA TO COACH! Northern JC hired another WSA alum into the college coaching ranks as Irving Peralta (WSA 90 boys) will begin his career on the coaching "side" this Spring. 

HERNANDEZ GETS VALUABLE MINS FOR ORU.  Marco Hernandez (WSA 92 boys) got some valuable minutes for ORU Golden Eagles who reached the Summit League Conference championship game for a 2nd consecutive time! 

 
BUSH INDUCTED INTO TU HALL OF FAME: WSA DOC, Roger Bush, was inducted into the TU Athletic Hall of Fame this Fall as a member of the ’91 TU Team which was the first in school and state history to make the NCAA national tournament.  That year TU won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and season championships, defeated 4 top-20 teams, and lost to SMU in the NCAA Tournament.  
 
JOHNSON LEADS CENTRAL CHRISTIAN AS COACH TO ONE GAME FROM NATIONAL TOURNAMENT! Coach Michah Johnson (WSA 87 Boys) is an assistant for the Central Christian Tigers who were one game from the national tournament this year!

BULLARD NETS TWO EARLY SEASON GOALS FOR RSU! Devon Bullard (WSA 92 girls) netted two early season goals for Rogers State University in their season openers.  Bullard, a defender, was found scoring one off her head and another from range to help RSU to a couple of early season victories!
