Sand Springs/Sapulpa -- WOW! In a word, that sums up the 10th Anniversary WSA Cup weekend for West Side Alliance S.C.  A great event, not dampened by rain or mud, and two all-time tournament records by the host club!  WSA set a record for most championships by a club, winning no fewer than seven WSA Cup Championships, and by number of teams advancing, seeing no fewer than 13 teams advance in the Anniversary event!

It was another opportunity for West Side Alliance SC to showcase not only the club’s famous hospitality but their footballing prowess. Director of Coaching , Roger Bush reported, "The club has evolved, in terms of sheer numbers and participation, but also in terms of level of play and coaching.  Evident this weekend and the past few summers with teams competing on a regional scale."  While WSA had the most teams competing in the event of any club, it was an unlikely scenario that any club would send 13 teams through to the elimination rounds. "We are proud of each of our teams. Not just those advancing and picking up hardware.  Our kids are notorious for their work rate, character, and sportsmanship.  We are most proud of that," added Bush.

WSA saw it’s WSA 94 boys breeze through competition on 19 goals for and 1 against in its 4-game route to the Championship trophy.  Not to be outdone by their girls counterparts, the WSA 94 girls would claim the championship by defeating Norman Fury 92 in the final by a scoreline of 5-2. It marked the 94 girls 6th consecutive WSA Cup Title.  Is there a clean sweep in the works?  "We want to sweep it", said Coach Josh "Mac" when asked about the record 6th straight title.  That means reaching the winner’s circle in 2011 and 2012.

The WSA 99 Boys White continued an already impressive fall campaign by claiming the WSA Cup championship, while the WSA 96 Girls would prove "iron man" tough winning the final by going to extra time and doing so playing down a man for all but 5 minutes of the final.  The 96 girls would get to penalties before sealing the win in dramatic fashion.  The WSA 96 boys blue side would also need penalties to get the gold medal, and they made it happen as their clubmates WSA 96 Boys Red cheered from the sideline.  The WSA 98 Girls Blue would not quite get to penalties thanks to a late game penalty that gave Jordan Tatum’s side the 1-0 squeaker win in their championship final, and their clubmates WSA 98 Red would claim their division championship in the "Gold" division with a 3-1 win as the WSA 98 girls program made a "clean sweep".

Congratulations to all the WSA teams who participated in the 2010 WSA Cup on a good weekend.  Several teams narrowly missed advancing, went out on goal difference, or lost in penalties.  And congratulations to all those teams that collected hardware.  Most importantly congratulations West Side Alliance S.C. players for continuing to represent our soccer family with class and pride, and taking to heart the supreme purpose of sport as a tool for building friendships.
