WSA COMMUNITY SHIELD

The Fourth Annual WSA Community Shield Match Day, Sponsored by Bill & Ruth’s Subs in Sand Springs, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 13-14 at WSA’s Rivercity Parks home match fields.  The event will pit WSA teams against WSA teams and is sure to include several intense "friendlies" between some teams that share a training ground. The games will kick off on Friday night, February 12th, when the 96 girls and 97 girls square off, and the remaining scheduled matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday.

The Community Shield is a WSA Tradition began in 2007 when the club decided to make an event of what many around the WSA parts consider one of sports most rivaled contests: two west side teams pitted against each other.  The winner of the match receives their team name engraved on the Shield Trophy under the year of competition.  The trophy bears the names of all the past winners.

In the past some great matches have been played at the Community Shield, including thrillers between the 92 boys and 91 boys, 93 boys and 94 boys, 97 girls and 98 girls, and 94 girls and 93 girls in the past two years.  Some of these matches required penalty kicks to resolve the winner.

This year Bill & Ruth’s Subs has offered to sponsor the event and will allow WSA a sharing of profits for the weekend of Feb 12-13.  All WSA teams are encouraged to attend Bill & Ruth’s Subs after the game to help out the club and grab a great sub, gyro, or even a steak!! BILL & RUTH’S IS LOCATED 2 miles from Rivercity

OPL CHAMPS
WSA 92 Men Claim u18 Oklahoma Premiere League Championship

The WSA 92 men, coached by Ryan Bush and Miguel Perralta, recently added another trophy to their shelf, the u18 Oklahoma Premiere League Championship Trophy.  The squad finished a point ahead of Norman Celtic in the standings, and gave away only 5 goals on the season in a league that featured 4 teams placing in the SPL and two defending state champions.  WSA 92 currently is ranked #2 in the state of Oklahoma in their age division.

West Side Alliance 92 men have enjoyed another successful campaign, including an unbeaten 3-0 mark at the Sportsource Showcase, and a recent unbeaten outing at the CASL Final Four Showcase.  The team will next turn it sights on the 2010 State and Regional championships.

The squad currently has several players who have made commitments to colleges for the Fall 2010, and others still weighing their options.  Coach Bush points to the leadership of captains Bobby Behrens and Sammie Duininck for the teams ability to maintain a consistent edge in tournament and league play.  In 2009 the squad reached the state championship match before bowing out in penalties to OFC 92.  After the holiday the team will turn attention to preparing for the 2010 State Tournament, hoping to one-up it’s previous performance.

The WSA 93 boys knocked off TSC in a dramatic 4-2 come from behind win at WSA’s home grounds, Rivercity Parks, to claim the 2009 Oklahoma Premiere League u17 boys Championship.   The trophy marked the 2nd OPL trophy won by the club in 24 hours as the WSA 92 boys pulled the trick in the u18 Boys division the day before.

Coaches, Justin Phillips and Emo Griffin, credit much of the success of the team to an organized backline, anchored by centerback Adam Harmon, and consistent midfield play from the center of the park general, Dillon Alexander.

WSA 93 has now won three league championships since Phillips arrival at the helm in the Fall of 2009.  The team finished the 2009 OPL campaign just one point ahead of TSC, needing the win in the final league outing to secure the trophy.
