The First Annual WSA Poker Night was held on January 15th at the Case Community Center and it was deemed a smashing success by event organizers.  The event raised funds which will help seed a "WSA College Showcase Fund" and also seemed to be a good time had by all. Participating were several WSA families, coaches, even players.

While Coach Justin Phillips, also known as the Antiguan Archimedes, guaranteed victory for himself he was eliminated one step from the prize circle.  WSA 96 player Mack Stockard enjoyed lasting longer than two coaches, Wes Branstetter and Justin Phillips, and actually made the final 3. But in the end it was the Sapulpan Sanjayan who claimed the victor’s spoils.  Greg Hamilton outlasted all players to claim the first prize.

Hamburgers, chicken and sausage were cooked by Coach Barry Roberts, while the tournament was officiated by Coach Trent Hamilton. WSA fundraiser committee members, Candy Breck and Pam Thibodeaux supplied the prizes accumulating over $500 in total, including a $150 gift card to Best Buy as one of the top prizes.  In all the final five players redeemed prizes, from Beauty Baskets and OU Shirts, to the Best Buy Gift Cards.

Coordinators Barry Roberts and Roger Bush pointed to the success of the first of several fundraiser events planned to help launch the WSA College Showcase Fund.  The WSA College Showcase fund will help offset some of the expenses incurred by WSA teams who participate in College Showcase events as part of their tournament agenda.  Roberts and Bush point out the increased expenses in entry fees and travel for older teams at WSA and how beneficial the fund will hopefully become in allowing teams just enough relief each season to still embark on an ambitious tournament schedule for showcasing WSA’s prospective student athletes.

The next planned events are the WSA Dodgeball Tournament this SATURDAY, MARCH 12th, 4:00 p.m. at the Case Community Center, and Casino Night, sponsored by Texas Roadhouse, Thursday, March 17th at the Stokely’s Event Center.  See the WSA homepage for more info and pre registration info for each event.  You are guaranteed a great time and in the process you are supporting a very worthwhile cause!
