Regretfully; Eddie Ledesma

The WSA Soccer Club regrets to announce that Eddie Ledesma, WSA 92 boys, passed away early Monday morning from injuries sustained in an assault that took place on Saturday afternoon.
Eddie is a beloved teammate and friend to many. He spread joy and kindness, and his smile and gentle spirit moved each of those of his closest friends, and even those who barely knew him.

Eddie will be missed and his memory and legacy with each of us is eternal.
Eddie's services will be held at St Francis Xavier Church on Thursday, November 6th, at 10:00 a.m.
The WSA Soccer Club is now taking donations to help the Ledesma family. If you would like to donate you can make a contribution at our concession stand, or by finding Mrs Harmon, Roger, or another WSA Board Member.
Eddie reminds us, in his example, that peace and love shall prevail. May all peace and love find our hearts and heal where there is hurt and provide counsel for what we don't understand. And may we always remember the example of Eddie Ledesma.

WSA SENDS SEVEN TEAMS TO BLITZ INVITATIONAL; FIVE TEAMS ADVANCE

West Side Alliance S.C. sent seven teams to the annual Blitz United Fall Invitational Tournament the weekend of October 24th-26th and "The Side" continued to add to it's hardware collection and impressive 2008 tournament resume.

Among the most impressive results was the WSA 93 boys capturing their fourth tournament trophy of the Fall season by defeating Highlanders 92 boys in the Gold u17 finals by a score of 2-1. WSA 93 boys have lost only one match in nearly thirty matches so far this season. The 93 boys defeated Arkanas Wizzards in the semifinal stage to reach the final and they drew with Hurricane 92 and defeated Arkansas and Extreme 93 in the preliminary rounds. The squad collected 16 goals for only allowing 6 against en route to the championship. WSA 93 is coached by Justin Phillips and Emo Griffin.

The WSA 97 girls, under the guidance of coach Billy Wallace, captured their first tournament trophy by reaching the finals of the Silver division, before losing to Blitz Navy. Coach Wallace was pleased with his team's performance and still was encouraged by seeing room for improvement.

The WSA 98 girls, coached by Mark Foster and Josh Eardley, reached the semifinal stage of the Gold division before losing to a familiar foe, Thunder 98, where the girls lost a close fought battle 1-0. WSA had previously defeated Thunder 98 in the finals of the Labor Day tournament earlier this year.

The WSA 97 boys, coached by Wes Branstetter reached the semifinals of the Gold Division after an impressive first round performance. The squad dropped a tough match 2-1 at the hands of the host club, Blitz. Coach Branstetter was proud of the young lads efforts on the weekend.

WSA's up and coming future, the academy group of 99's and 00's advanced to the semifinal stage of the "Silver" flight by defeating Blitz and Ingram Comets, before losing to eventual champions Arkansas Wizzards. Coach Tom Apitz and Pele Portillo were particularly proud of their young team's efforts in the tournament.

Jason and Les Foster's 95 boys narrowly missed advancing in the Gold Division, being eliminated by goal difference in a tiebreaker scenario by one goal. The 95 boys are all too familiar with narrow misses and are hoping they can get over the hump to earn a trophy in league play this year. Greg Haney's 98 boys played tough but found goals difficult to come by and did not advance.

Below are the results from the 2008 BLITZ UNITED FALL INVITATIONAL for WSA TEAMS:

WSA 97 Boys -- Gold Semifinalist (lost 2-1 in semis)
WSA 95 Boys -- missed advancing by goal difference tiebreaker by one goal
WSA 93 Boys -- Gold CHAMPIONS ** playing up in 92 division
WSA 98 Girls -- Gold Semifinalist (lost 1-0 in semis)
WSA 97 Girls -- Silver Finalist
WSA 99 Boys -- Silver Semifinalist
WSA 98 Boys -- Did not advance
Congratulations to all teams for not only playing some great football, but for also representing our club and families with pride and class!
Respect Everyone... FEAR NO ONE!
