94 Girls Finalist and Semifinalist; Legends Labor Day Invitational and Cosmos Cup
The WSA 94 girls opened their 2006 season in a fashion they have made a tradition by advancing to the finals of a tournament, the KC Legends Labor Day Invitational.  While the team is only in it's third year it is no stranger to championship matches.  The girls won their three first round match-ups including wins over two out of state teams before they faced Legends World Cup in the final.  The team came up on the short end of a 1-0 match in the final, but coach Terry Hall noted that they were confident they could contend with teams of the elite caliber of Legends World Cup.
Following their success at the Legends Invitational the team then traveled to Oklahoma City where it faced some familiar foes in the Cosmos Cup.  The team made it to the semifinal round after a shaky first round, and dropped a close match to the home club, Cosmos, by a score line of 1-0.  Cosmos went on to win the tournament.  WSA 94 girls have been concentrating on league play the past month remaining in their traditional top 3 spot in the GCSA A-League.  The team is hoping to break their streak of 3 consecutive seasons as league runners-up by grabbing a championship trophy this season.
Well done ladies on some great early season performances! [11/28/06]

91 Boys Champions of BASC Tourney; Defeat Ranked Team from Texas
The WSA 91 boys opened the 2006 Campaign in tremendous fashion by defeating Xcelex MSA, out of North Texas in the championship match of the 2006 BASC Labor Day Tournament.  The 91 boys advanced to the finals on strong wins in the first round, but found the competition much stiffer in the final match of the tournament.  Xcelex came into the tournament having won the Winterfest Championship and having reached the semifinals of the Puma Cup.  The squad was ranked in the top 10 of Texas' state rankings and had also waltzed through their first round matches of the BASC Tourney.  WSA 91 was prepared for the challenge.
WSA found the net first in the 14th minute off the head of Orlando Colina, after striker, Kenneth, got around the end and bent a ball back into the area to the on running midfielder. The 1-0 lead hardly looked to be enough as Xcelex began mounting some pressure.  But defensive midfielder Jesus' would strike a long range bomb that bent just inside the near post to beat the Xcelex keeper in the 28th minute.  Preserving the 2-0 lead through halftime the WSA forces would struggle some with fitness in the hot and humid conditions, eventually yielding to a brilliant strike by Xcelex's top forward.  With the match at 2-1, WSA would strike with counterattacks the rest of the afternoon, swaying on the side of caution defensively.  In the 70th minute the referee would award a penalty and sweeper, Fredricko would step forward to knock home the goal that would seal the victory and the championship!
The trophy was the boys first championship trophy, and will go next to their runner-up prize gathered at the Blitz United Fall Invitational a year ago.  The team is coached by Pedro Colina, and is only in it's third season together. Through the midway point of the Fall season the 91 boys were in the hunt for the u16 A Division League championship.
Well done boys on a great tournament and for all the progress you have made in such a short time!  Congratulations on a tremendous beginning to 2006! [11/28/06]

WSA 90 and WSA 89 Reach Championship Match at BASC Tourney
The WSA 89 and WSA 90 boys squads, both trained by Josh McElroy, gave WSA fans a dream match at the 2006 BASC Labor Day tournament this past September.  The two squads breezed through their first round opponents to find each other, their very own training partners, for the center stage event.
The 89's entered the contest injury-riddled and on a depleted roster, while the 90 boys were coming in full-throttle, excited about their new player additions, and ready to compete with the best in Oklahoma.  The match would prove to be memorable and hard fought as have all WSA intra-club matches.
The 90's opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but the 89's quickly answered to draw the game back to level.  In the 2nd half the 90 boys got a goal off some persistent pressure and due to some heavy legs on the 89's backline.  Minutes later however it appeared the 89's had teeter-tottered the momentum back when they looked to have scored to draw the match level again.  However the center referee made a determination of offside which was suspect.  It was the last real scoring chance for the 89's and the 90's would gain a third goal to seal the match in the final 5 minutes using a deeper bench and fresher legs to wear down the 89's over the 90 minute battle.
The WSA club is extremely proud of both squads.  The representation of two sides from the WSA club in the championship finals is a reflection of the talent, hard work, and high standards derived from the boys program's tradition of excellence.  Well done lads on representing your club and community with class and character, and demonstrating the excellent standards our boys program has traditionally adhered to.   WSA 90 is the 7th different WSA boys team to win the BASC Labor Day tourney.
Congratulations to both teams on great start to the season!

Upstart 94 Boys Reach Semis at BASC Tourney
The surprise turn-around team of the year, WSA 94 boys, reached the semifinal stage of the BASC Labor Day tourney in September by defeating Norman Celtic 3-1 in their final first round match.  The team, which had ended last year by surprising several teams, tying the State Director's Cup Champions TSC, 4-4, in the first round of the tournament, found itself a game away from it's first trophy.
The team ran into a tough Lonestar club in the semifinals, and in spite of tremendous pressure, and many chances to score, the squad would go out of the tournament at the semifinal stage.
WSA 94 boys are coached by Roger Bush and Jeff McIntosh.

Congratulations boys on a great performance, and well done on the tremendous perseverance and commitment to development that is beginning to pay off!

WSA 90 Boys Runners-Up in Arkansas
Congratulations to the WSA 90 boys for bringing back the CASA Invitational Tournament runner-up trophy on the weekend of November 4th and 5th.  The 90 boys stormed through first round competition in Little Rock and easily reached the championship stage where they would meet WFA Capitals 89, in the finals.
The 90 boys were familiar with playing older teams, having met their very own WSA 89 boys in the BASC finals earlier in the year.  The WFA Capitals squad proved to be as good as their # 3 ranking in Arkansas suggests.  WSA found itself down 2 goals with only 15 minutes remaining before Daniel Peralta drew one back and made an exciting final 15 minutes of championship football.  WSA could not find the equalizer, but the trophy and the competitive result against the quality opponent were both positives for the squad which has grabbed two early year tournament trophies.
The 90 boys are trained by Josh McElroy and team manager is David Duffy.
Well done boys on a great tournament outing and terrific Fall season so far! [11/28/06]

89 Girls Win in Arkansas
The WSA 89 girls have rediscovered their winning ways of late, and had it not been for one minor error in the dying moments of a match in Little Rock, the squad may have found itself back in the trophy hunt.

The 89 girls scored 13 goals and surrendered only one at the CASA Invitational in Little Rock, Arkansas, November 4th and 5th.  The team defeated North Little Rock Impact, 8-0, then handed Greenbrier Arsenal a 5-0 setback.  But before any of that had transpired the team had met Searcy Storm in an early Saturday morning match that favored the locals who didn't have to travel.  WSA 89 gave themselves every opportunity to win, but couldn't find the back of the net.  Then in the dying moments of the game Searcy countered and got a go-ahead goal to win 1-0, and seal the fate of WSA 89 who would not advance.  Searcy went on to win 2-0 in the finals.  Searcy was ranked top 4 in Arkansas going into the tournament.
WSA 89 is coached by Roger Bush and Jamie Davis.  The team is currently in contention for the top spot in the Oklahoma Premiere League having only been defeated once since August.
Well done ladies on another great season in the making!  [11/28/06]

WSA 94 Boys Runners-Up in Arkansas!
It won't be long before the word is out that the West Side Alliance 94 boys program is "for real".  The club has turned themselves around from a last place finish in league play last year into a league and tournament contender this year.  The team continued it's magical season in Little Rock on November 4th and 5th, playing at the Burns Park complex in the CASA Invitational Tournament.
WSA 94 opened the tournament needing to score two goals late in the match to tie WFA Capitals 2-2 in a game that never seemed that close.  Goal scoring continued to be difficult for the boys in their second match but they were satisfied with their 3-1 win over Conway Titans to keep their hopes alive for a trip to the finals.  The following day WSA found their form and defeated Little Rock FC White by a score line of 5-0, and secured a trip to the championship match against Bryant Storm, the 8th ranked team from Arkansas.
WSA entered the contest as the unknown underdog and after giving up an early goal may have appeared to deserve the tag.  But after responding to being behind and mounting pressure to equalize the team proved to their Arkansas neighbors that they deserved to be in the championship.  WSA 94 mounted pressure for the majority of the 2nd half before Joey Hall finally found the back of the net with only ten minutes to play.  The final ten minutes saw WSA continue to produce chances, but unfortunately none produced goals.  Against the run of play Bryant Storm would find a counterattack chance, and an errant WSA clearance which ricocheted off one of their strikers shins found the back of the net giving Bryant Storm the win and first place trophy.
The 94 boys collected their first trophy of their young careers.  And while it was the runner-up hardware this time, the team looks primed to make a run at the golden medallions in the near future.  It represented the next step from their semifinalist appearance earlier in the year at the BASC Labor Day Invitational.  The 94 boys are coached by Roger Bush and Jeff McIntosh.
Well done lads on a great tournament run!
