MIDWEST LABOR DAY TOURNAMENT TEAM LEADERS:
Welcome to the 2020 Midwest Labor Day Tournament!
We are excited to host you and your families during the 11th Annual Midwest Labor Day Tournament.
Below are important reminders in preparation for the event:
Final Schedules are posted on the tournament page: https://events.gotsport.com/events/default.aspx?EventID=78048
CHECK-IN / PARKING PASS PURCHASE:
Please be sure your team has checked in. Teams who have not checked in will not be validated, and will have a hold placed on their game card, which will jeopardize the team's match results. During check-in you were required to purchase a team set of parking passes to help reduce/eliminate "window transactions" in a precautionary measure for COVID. Thank you for abiding by this request.
ONLINE CHECK-IN / PARKING PASS PURCHASE PROCESS:
PRE-GAME CHECK-IN & MODIFIED COVID PROTOCOLS
No paper credentials will be checked or reviewed field side by referees. Please have all paperwork ready, available, and accessible via the team coach or manager.
No pre-game ritual coin toss will take place:
PRECAUTIONARY HEAT PROTOCOLS:
Hydration Reminders: Head Coaches and Managers please remind players to pre-hydrate in the 48 hours prior to play.
No hydration stations shall be available due to COVID precautions. Please be sure your team has plenty of water, each player with his/her own bottle, and that a team rep is prepared to replenish water so that it is available to players before, during, and after the match.
Teams should bring tents and shade structures for their sidelines. Parents should bring chairs (no bleachers).
Roster Maximums have been expanded to allow a +2 allowance of the recommended roster sizes (i.e. if the game day roster is recommended at 18 then 20 players can be eligible). For any roster sizes over the "+2" allowance, approval of the tournament committee is required.
Unlimited substitutions, at any stop, always at the referee's discretion are allowed, in all age divisions throughout all flights, pool play, and elimination matches.
IF NEEDED - Hydration Breaks X3 per game: ONLY IF an “Excessive Heat Warning” is in effect will there be 3X water breaks per game. IF this implemented the process will be.
1. Halfway point of 1st Half (if a 30 minute half, then near 15 minutes into 1st half)
2. Thirdway Point of 2nd Half (if a 30 minute half, then near 10 minutes into 2nd half)
3. Two-Thirds Point of 2nd Half (if a 30 minute half, then near 20 minutes into 2nd half)
4. Referees are permitted to add up to 2 additional minutes in the 2nd half.
5. Referees will keep the official clock of all games.
MAJOR TOURNAMENT RULES DETAIL:
POST GAME PROTOCOLS & NO HANDSHAKE REMINDER:
Referees, coaches, and managers are asked to kindly remind players immediately at the final whistle "no handshakes". Thank you for your help in this area.
It is the responsibility of both coaches to review Game Cards following the match. Coaches will not be asked to sign the game card. The referee will report the score by turning in the game card to tournament headquarters.
Athletic trainers will be on site and will be marked by 15' Flags that will say "FIRST AID/MEDICAL" on them. Medical tents are identified on the tournament field map.
Players needing taped: Players should bring their own tape and be prepared to adjust if Trainers are required to modify their protocols.
Fully customized official 2020 Midwest Labor Day Tournament merchandise will be available on site at the Vendor Circle. Tshirts will be fully customizable and will include the official 2020 Midwest Labor Day Logo.
PROVING GROUNDS AWARDS STAGE - FINALIST TEAMS
All teams reaching the "Finals" will be asked to report to the PROVING GROUNDS Awards staging area (see field map) following their championship game for presentation of the Team Cups and Winner's medallions (both Champion & Runner-Up will receive team cups & medallions).
AWARDS STAGE COVID PROTOCOLS
The Proving Grounds Awards Stage is located at the lower field level. If your team reaches a final on fields 10, 11, 12, or 13, please be prepared to drive to the main lot to pick up your trophies.
There will be multiple teams receiving awards at the same time. This year, different from year's past, there will not be a staged introduction of each team. Rather we will ask teams to receive awards at the coach and manager leadership, take the stage for team photos, and then exit.
We hope all will understand our effort here is to avoid congestion, not to minimalize a great moment for teams and players. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a time in the near future where the "Ole Ole" victory chants and dancing can resume on the Proving Grounds Awards Stage.
** Any teams wishing to not receive their awards via the tournaments process, are welcome to alert the Awards Stage managers who will happily hand over the trophies to a team rep.

In 2016 WSA staff members, Ryan, Catherine, myself (Roger), lost our dad after a short bout w/ cancer. He currently has 9 grandkids all of which currently or formerly play soccer at WSA. He was instrumental, along with many others, in the late 70's and early 80's in helping bring the game to our generations in the U.S. In 2017 our family was honored to learn that the famous Rivercity Parks Soccer Complex, which our dad helped construct in it's origins, would take on his namesake, the "Roger Stanley Bush" Soccer Complex. Many of you know myself. So to avoid any confusion - I didn't name something after me (but if it meant getting ahead of younger, less athletic brother Ryan - I would). Our family is honored this great facility bears our dad's namesake.
IMPORTANT ROSTER RULES:
COVID EXCEPTION: Players may dual roster within the same tournament division.
Teams may expand roster sizes, and participate on game day +2 players to the recommended roster allowances.
