WSA PLAYERS IN NATIONAL COLLEGE TOURNAMENT
Peralta Brothers Square off in Rare Brother vs Brother Encounter in "Sweet 16"

WSA soccer club has been well represented by alumni during the 2012 college soccer season.  And as national tournament play got under way a couple of weeks ago, WSA players remained in the spotlight.

Juan Peralta (WSA 92), the leading goalscorer for NSU’s Riverhawks, and one of the nation’s leading scorers, and Bobby Behrens (WSA 92), one of the starting midfilelders for NSU, helped the Riverhawks earn a spot in the Sweet Sixteen of the National Tournament.  And in a unique encounter, the squad drew Ft Haye’s State University, who was led by no other than Danny Peralta (WSA 90).  Juan played for WSA for 8 of his 9 youth playing years, while Bobby played his entire youth career at WSA from age 5 onward, while Danny played 5 of his 6 youth playing years for WSA. All three players were key figures in helping their youth teams to State Finalist and State Championships at WSA, as both Peralta brothers scored goals in the state finals to help WSA 93 and WSA 90 respectively, to state titles.

In the photo to the right Bobby (#12), is about to celebrate with Juan (#10) after a game winner!

It was logical, then, to expect that the WSA mates would have something to say about a game being played in the national spotlight, in the presitgious "Sweet Sixteen" of the NCAA DII men’s soccer tournament.  The Peralta brothers accounted for 4 goals in the match played Friday, November 16 at Tahlequah, which saw a final scoreline of 5-3, and a rare showcase by brothers on opposing teams in that level of the NCAA tournament.  Juan helped NSU to the victory and an early 3-neil halftime lead, but brother Danny made the game interesting with a great 2nd half effort.

Older Brother, Miguel, currently coaches WSA 98 Boys at WSA, where the youngest Peralta, Moi, plays.  Irving Peralta, who played goalkeeper for WSA 88, another WSA state champion side, currently coaches at Northern College. The family tradition of soccer excellence for the Peralta’s, and their home club at WSA, has a lot of folks beaming fairly proud over the holidays!

While NSU was knocking off Ft Haye’s State University, Dillon Alexander (WSA 93 Red) was in Tampa, Florida, helping Tulsa University return to the NCAA DI tournament’s Sweet Sixteen round.  Dillon has been referred to as TU’s "spark plug", as he sees minutes off the bench for the pereniall Final IV contender. TU knocked off South Florida earning their trip back to the Sweet Sixteen of the National Tournament, and will host San Diego next Sunday, 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time.  If they win, they’ll face the winner of Syracuse and Geogetown.  Tulsa University has spent most of the year in the national ranking, having scored some big wins over nationally ranked foes.  They entered the NCAA’s as the 11-seed. Alexander helped WSA 93 Red win a state championship this past year, and played his entire youth career for WSA, from age 5 onward.

Conner Kinkead (WSA 94), who helped WSA 94 reach the State Finals and finish as Oklahoma Runner-Up this past May, joined up with Jefferson College this past Fall, and spent the entire season in the National Rankings for the Junior College Athletic Association.  Jefferson College were crowned regional champions, and won a birth to the NJCAA national tournament where they were ousted in the first round on the weekend of November 11 and 13th.

WSA saw many of it’s alumni well represented in this year’s collegiate post season tournaments and conference tournaments.  We are proud of each of our alumni playing at the "next level" and congratulate each of them on a GREAT SEASON!
