WSA 96 GIRLS WRAP UP THIRD PLACE FINISH

In a story of persistence and perseverance the WSA 96 Girls squad secured a league trophy in the final match of the season against Ft Gibson by winning and gaining the necessary 3 points to earn them a shared spot in third place of the GCSA A Division, u15 girl’s table.

The 96 girls have pushed towards excellence in many ways the past two year, and coach King reported he is "Pumped about the progress of the team," shortly after the team had grabbed the league trophy.  The squad has battled from the lowly spot of the league standings just two short years ago to contending for a spot in the OPL.  Last season’s league finale saw the team draw with the league champions, Hurricane 96, foreshadowing the growth and improvement evidenced this season.

WSA 96 girls finished with a winning record of 6 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, for 19 points in the 10 team race.  Claremore Freedom won the league championship, and the only blemish on Claremore’s record was a draw with WSA 96 girls.  "We are close.  Real close to the top of the league.  I’m just happy for the girls," continued Coach King.  While goalscoring did not come easy for the team, 17 goals on the 9 game season, the team was organized defensively, turning in 3 shutouts, and 3 games of giving up just one goal.  The points earned in the table represent the best outing for the 96 girls in their history.  Coach King is hoping it represents another step in the evolution of the team.

WSA 96 girls recently finished runners-up in the Midwest Labor Day Invitational and Champions of the WSA Cup last Spring.  Adding the 3rd place league trophy to their shelves will be a third trophy in half a year.  Not bad for a team that was looking for just results a couple of seasons ago.  As the team continues it’s hunt for more hardware they will take a short a holiday before prepping for the Spring Season.

Congratulations ladies of WSA 96 for your outstanding season and achievement!
