QUARTUCCIO CREDITED WITH SHUTOUT FOR ORU

Tony Quartuccio never imagined he’d be wearing mitts and a long sleeve jersey in his first collegiate match.  Tony may not have ever imagined he’d be "starting" in his first collegiate match.  But no doubt he never imagined he’d be the starting keeper.  When O.R.U. took the field on Saturday, August 21st, against John Brown University, the former WSA 85 and WSA 86 team member, Tony Quartuccio, had received the starting the nod in goal.  And after ninety minutes, the even more improbable -- he registered a shutout!  The shutout may not be "necessarily" attributed to Quartuccio prowess in goal, and maybe more to most of the game being played in the midfield.  But for now Quartuccio, a left winger or forward, can brag that he has an NCAA G.A.A. (goals against average) of 0.0 in the preseason.  And it doesn’t get better than that -- especially for a forward.[08/25/04]

JBU and ORU Match Features WSA Ties

When O.R.U. and J.B.U. (John Brown University) squared off in pre-season play on Saturday night, August 21, 2004, the WSA club was well-represented at the 81st and Delaware soccer pitch.  In the starting line-up for the Golden Eagles of O.R.U. was Tony Quartuccio, who was the improbable freshman starter in goal.  Quartuccio was a field player for the WSA 85 and WSA 86 boys the past five years.  Out of the line-up but on the bench for O.R.U. was starting marking back Victor Pena (WSA 83) due to an injury, and Juan Devia "J.D." (W.S.A. 86) who is still waiting on NCAA clearinghouse papers.  On the bench, Ryan Bush (W.S.A. 80) was assisting head coach, Steve Hayes.  JBU’s starting line-up featured two WSA players, Daniel Fleming (WSA 84) and Seth Hildebrandt (WSA 84).  And freshman red shirt goalkeeper, Chris Hansmann (WSA 86) was on the bench, being tutored by JBU’s All-American senior goalkeeper.

The match ended with O.R.U. on the winning end of a 4-0 score line, and somewhat of a reunion afterwards. [08/25/04]

WSA Picnic/Social This Friday, August 13th, 6:30 p.m. @ WSA Fields -- SSSC Complex.

The Annual WSA Picnic Social has been moved to Friday, August 13th, at 6:30 p.m.  The original date of Thursday, August 12th, was in conflict with several team’s training and scrimmage times.  Once again this year’s event will feature the famous 4 v 4 tournament.  Other events planned include contests, raffles, kids vs. adults scrimmage -- "The Rematch", soccer tennis tournament, and of course hot dogs, and other eats.  All WSA teams, players, parents, and family are invited.  The club will provide the hot dogs and teams will bring the rest of their drinks and food.  There is rumor that Coach Billy may do his back flip -- and Coach Jamie may do her dance.  You won’t want to miss it! [08/10/04]

Chris Hansmann Signs With John Brown University

Chris Hansmann has committed to attending John Brown University, one of the top men’s NAIA soccer programs in the Midwest region of the United States.  Hansmann has committed to a program who has a rich tradition of producing top flight goalkeepers.  Hansmann will join Pablo Fernandez, an All-American goalkeeper, and the top goalkeeping prospect from Colorado to comprise one of NAIA’s top goalkeeping crews in the country.  Hansmann played this past year for the WSA 86 boys, who won the BASC Labor Day Tournament, finished runner-up at the MC United College Showcase in St. Louis, and played in the Oklahoma Premiere League. Coach Bob Gustavson of JBU says, "He (Chris) has great potential and is a very hard worker.  I know he will develop into a first rate college goalkeeper." Hansmann joined WSA 86 boys this year, after spending the majority of his career with Tempest 86.  Hansmann garnered All-District and All-Conference accolades for Tulsa Hale High School.  Hansmann chose JBU in the face of several other recruiting offers from NCAA D-II and NAIA programs in the region.  You can click on the following link to visit the JBU website and see the article on JBU’s men’s soccer page about Hansmann’s signing.   JBU Athletics - Soccer  Congratulations Chris![07/06/04]

Parents Beat Kids in 1st Annual 4th of July Match

Many members of the WSA Soccer Club used the 3rd of July to kick-off the festivities for the holiday weekend by meeting at the WSA fields for a picnic gathering.  Included in the festivities was a "challenge" match in which the parents took on the kids -- and not against the odds -- the parents won!  The final score: 5-3.
The parents had minimal help from the coaching staff, and many pointed to the focused warm-up that helped prepare them mentally for the match.  A few kids complained about the refereeing, but the parents saw everything as fair and clean.  Following the match the City of Sand Springs fireworks display lit up the night sky.  Thanks to the WSA 93 teams, boys and girls, and coach Billy Wallace, for organizing the event.  It looks like the club just began another annual tradition.[07/03/04]
